BENDIGO COMMONS
MetaDistric: Work-less work-like
Tutor: Stephen Hawken
Studio: The Office
Year: Mid-semester 2022
Location: Bendigo, Melbourne
Team member: Kolkateka Khun, Kheng Hong Ly

Bendigo Commons proposes itself as a pilot project for the decentralization and integration of office space into a collective production of culture and daily life. The project redefines the functions of a dwelling as it intervenes by pedestrianizing the block of Bendigo by inserting a walkable spine - disintegrating working spaces into daily interactive activities. Physically this manifests as a light touch armature that allows for a quick and responsive office infrastructure, designed at the human scale for collaboration, interaction, and entertainment. The notion of work must not be attached to the spatial confinement of an office. Instead, work itself is a complex system of tasks, and should also be translated and practiced spatially to suit the needs of a collaborative.  Hence, through this project, the scattering and diversifying to working spaces redefines what it means to collaborate and work in the city of Bendigo.
